Editor:

As a life-long Progressive Conservative I have taken a keen interest in the political career of Olive Crane, who has now proven her leadership qualities on three separate occasions.

The first time: Olive had the support of the membership when she competed for, and won, the leadership of our party. That was in spite of the inspired last minute effort put forth by those in our capitol who could not abide having someone from rural P.E.I. lead our party, especially a woman.

The second time: During the last election, we witnessed many of the same sore losers predict that Olive would not even win her own seat. But our leader came through again, winning big in her riding and leading four additional candidates to victory. She might have become premier if those who would not accept her leadership had put forth an honest effort.

The third time: Played out in recent weeks when the same old gang of malcontents, bolstered by those in the party who were fearful that her pursuit of the truth surrounding the activity of those who received PNP money would cause them embarrassment or worse, and fueled by a lingering gender bias that haunts the party.

Once again our iron-willed leader fought back with the courage that has become her hallmark. I opted not to participate in this kangaroo court and now that our membership has reached their verdict I plan to rededicate my efforts to help our party defeat the only Liberal party in Canada that has a permanent leader.

I am sure that the constant disloyalty and unrest displayed by certain party members has weakened our party. I know, however, that if the malcontents are able to man up and get behind this amazing woman, who has proven for the third time that she is a strong leader with the core belief that if you work hard, play by the rules and be true to yourself, success will surely follow.

Tory, tory hallelujah! You go girl.

Elmer Williams,

Summerside
