I refer to the article in The Guardian Tuesday Dec. 4 'What's the status of our shipbuilding plan?'. The article is quite right. Exactly where is the federal government in executing the $33-billion shipbuilding strategy?
What makes one even more skeptical is thefact that the recently much fanfared 'new' MV Atlantic Vision and MV Blue Puttees ferries, presently sailing between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, were actually manufactured some time ago in Europe and had also seen service on routes in Europe prior to being leased by Marine Atlantic. Further, the Atlantic Vision has been in dry dock under repair for several weeks since coming into service several months ago.
If this is any indication of the Harper government acquisition policy for at least the non-combat portion of this strategy, it should for sure be questioned, not only by Mr. Roach but also by the federal opposition parties, in no uncertain terms.
