Impaired drivers need treatment

Thanks for your excellent editorial (Dec. 13/12) concerning drunk drivers and asking Islanders to use some common sense which most do and when drinking — just don’t drive.  

However many Islanders, especially repeat offenders, are sick people who need treatment before theyunderstand or care about the safety of others. I believe repeat offenders should first be forced to take treatment for addictions/mental illness by provincial judges to ensure they really get the message and stop driving drunk.

If they refuse treatment then lock them up until they do agree because driving drunks will eventually kill someone because it’s only a matter of time.
