Gathering not an academic conference

Editor: I do not wish to engage in any dispute over any one’s opinion, even if it does not echo my own. I must say nonetheless that the recent gathering at UPEI does not represent an academic conference, nor can it.

A conference is a gathering called to present ideas; it cannot be a forum for presenting a single agenda.

To call the recent meeting a “conference” is both a misnomer and a denial of logic. And to name its opposition a parallel to the Inquisition is an historical error.

Both actions testify to intolerance and a lack of respect for human life in all its stages.
