Decision defies will of Islanders

Editor: I cannot believe that UPEI had the audacity to host such a conference on P.E.I., when it has been made clear by most Islanders and the P.E.I. government that the right to abortion is not an option here on the Island.

UPEI would not have existed only that St. Dunstan’s University gave the green light to move forward and sell their assets. I am sure that the founders and those that are still with us, such as Fr. Charlie Cheverie and Fr. Francis Bolger would be appalled at the decision made by UPEI and the Board of Governors to host such a venue. It is our tax dollars that helps maintain the existence of UPEI. Shame on Board Chair Tom Cullen, whom I have known for 45 plus years, for allowing this to happen. I cannot understand him condoning this.

If people were upset about the flyer that was delivered to many residents in the Charlottetown area and beyond, then the truth hurts. It is a reality that a child is being developed from the time of conception to birth in the women’s womb. As it says in the bible there are doubting Thomas’s that have to see to believe, we’ll look at that flyer and believe.

It will take time for us to heal over this decision, so when you are contemplating hosting a conference, do your research and due diligence before you sign on the dotted line.

I expect a reply from both the President of UPEI and Board Chair Tom Cullen on the rationale in hosting this conference.

Roger Doiron,

Winsloe
