Fight monsters, not become one

Editor: Unlike Mr. Fegelman (Letters — August 5), I do not feel the need to heap shame on Ms. Capper or Ms. White for expressing their views on the massacre of civilians in Gaza.

In other times, I believe these same women would have spoken out against the massacre known as the Holocaust.

To paraphrase Friedrich Nietzsche, ‘whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become one.’

Until citizens around the world elect leaders capable of settling differences without resorting to war then, Mr. Fegelman may make the case for shaming us all — himself included.

Giselle Déziel,

Cornwall
