Editor: Your headline story in the Saturday, July 26 Guardian (“Firearms law changes draw concern”) says that Steven Blaney, minister of Public Safety Canada (the department in charge of gun laws), has said that his department ‘is pursuing common sense measures that cut red tape [for gun owners], while ensuring Canadians are kept safe’.

It seems to me that ‘guns’, ‘gun safety’ and ‘common sense’ rarely occur in the same sentence, either here or in the country south of us.
