Editor: Stephen Harper’s agenda towards Russia seems an insult to Second World War veterans. I think the Harper Conservatives’ agenda towards Russia is wrong as we should be respected in the world as peacemakers. I honestly think it’s time for PM Stephen Harper to stop this nonsense and start respecting Russia and work for peace in this world. Our Russian allies fought the Nazis along with us.

It’s disturbing to hear some of the hateful comments about Russia coming from some of our elected officials that should know better. Diplomatic qualities seem to be lacking in a big way in the Stephen Harper government.

The Harper Conservatives might be able to throw the Maritime provinces easily under the bus, but trying to throw Russia under the bus is very reckless and dangerous in my opinion, as it raises tensions in the world.

My father was a Second World War veteran in the Merchant Navy from 1939-1945. If he were alive today I’m sure he’d be quite shocked to see a former ally, Russia, being treated in this ill manner by the federal Conservative government.

It’s now time for the west to stop trying to bully Russia and start to be wise enough to try bringing peace to our world.

Canada was respected as a peacemaker in the world at one time and as a mediator. Now we are losing our respect in the world as we are taking sides in conflict, because of this, I really think our Prime Minister is an embarrassment to Canada. I’m ashamed that Harper seems to be doing these things quite frequently and maybe putting our country at risk engaging in world conflicts.
