Editor: Now that Peter McQuaid is president of the Island PC Party we should expect to see specific action towards finding a new leader for the party. The future success of the Conservatives mainly depends on the quality and popularity of the new leader elected at their next convention. Veteran political operative McQuaid knows the ropes and he knows what must be done to breath new life into the party and he will do it. Premier Ghiz understands the honeymoon with Islanders is over and it’s possible the Liberals may not win a third majority in 2015 or 2016 so he is preparing for the worst. If Premier Ghiz stays on for the next election I suspect he has had enough and depending on the outcome could retire early.
