Editor: Some eight years ago, when Stephen Harper was the Leader of the Opposition, he was continuously criticizing the Liberal government for maintaining a surplus of $13 billion. He soon took care of this when he won a minority government in 2006 — it was not long before Canada was once again ‘in the red.’

One of the biggest announcements in the upcoming Harper government budget will undoubtedly be the elimination of the huge deficit by 2015. If the ‘creative accounting’ details can be believed and this really does come about, it will be no big deal really considering that the Harper government inherited $13 billion in the first place.

The most positive factor is that the present government has realized the ‘error of their ways’ even though it will have taken nine years to do so.
