Editor: Comment on your editorial, Dec. 21, 2013, ‘A visit from St. Nicholas to province,’ re taxation changes.

Twas Saturday before Christmas and all through my Charlottetown home I wasn’t stirring, but dumbfounded by the statement that new taxes were raised on the people with care. The finance minister was happy but I was very unhappy. With HST in place, while promises of no HST by Premier Ghiz during the last election still echo in my head. My husband, Second World War veteran, deceased on Sept. 28, 2013, and so far I am indebted with $1,122.80 HST (invoice proof available) on a very simple, not luxurious funeral.

Merry Christmas to our politicians who do not respect or stand by their promises.

Rita Murray,
