Editor: I was happy to see Charlottetown volunteers who drive cancer patients to the hospital are acknowledged for their work since 2013. However, I was delighted in 2009 when living in Montague and needed 25 cancer treatments in Charlottetown during the worst winter weather to learn members of the local Masonic Lodge provided such a volunteer driving service. I did not know about this service and at the time neither did the Cancer Society in Charlottetown.
The drivers were extremely solicitous, accompanying me right into the treatment centre, staying until my treatments were finished and then driving me home, most often providing interesting stories to entertain me.
I and many other Montague residents needing treatment were so very appreciative of this service and would like to see these volunteers acknowledged and thanked.
Their work could also be acknowledged by contributing to one of their favourite charities as an additional sign of gratitude at a time when help is most appreciated.
