Editor: Hunters for Conservation welcomes government’s decision to close the waterfowl season announced by Agriculture and Forestry Minister George Webster on Friday.
This closure should have been implemented 10 days earlier due to unexpected early freeze-up of waterfowl habitat and heavy snow which submitted waterfowl to be shot in extreme weather. Their marsh
habitat has been frozen for over a week.
The move to close the season is better late than never, affording waterfowl its greatest Christmas gift, the right to survive in extreme weather without being victimized in a season that was set to go to December 31.
All wildlife deserves a voice; we must be that voice since wildlife cannot speak to defend itself.
