Editor: Re “P.E.I. policy on abortions called harmful,” The Guardian, October 26: I commend Ms. MacQuarrie and her group on their compassion for expectant mothers who find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy. That is always a very difficult situation to be in and we all need to support mothers who are in crisis.
In the article, Ms. MacQuarrie states, “When you limit options, it breeds desperation.” Because nature instills in every expectant mother a deep, inherent desire to give her baby the gift of life — that only she can give, I sincerely hope that they do present to these women all of the options that are available to them here, on P.E.I. Birthright P.E.I., in Charlottetown (628-6028, toll free 866-968-6028) or in Summerside (724-3545) and the Island Pregnancy Centre (370-3700) offer practical support as well as understanding, encouragement and hope to any woman dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. Each of these agencies raises funds and accepts donations from within the community, in order to help mothers with a crisis pregnancy to eliminate the crisis, not the pregnancy.
