Editor: I am, by no means, a fan of the Harper government. But how about we have some genuine, non-ideological reporting here? How many positions in Veterans Affairs Canada in Charlottetown are actually being eliminated? I would bet less than 20. How many local clients (veterans) do they service? What is the ratio of front line office staff to veterans being impacted here?
Presumably, the population of Halifax/Dartmouth (600,000) has four times as many veterans to service as P.E.I. (which only has 150,000 people). It doesn’t matter how many DVA back office employees live in P.E.I. working for the “home branch,” what matters is the local client population being served.
I personally think the neo-Conservative Harper Alliance Reformers are genuinely trying to morph the country into a neo-fascist version of Oklahoma, but this story has nothing to do with their agenda. If you are seriously trying to rally public support behind the Liberals or NDP, stop reporting on non-stories such as this. All it does is weaken the genuine resistance movement in this country.
