Editor: For the first time in more than 200 years a Conservative MLA crossed the floor to join the governing Liberals. Hal Perry MLA for Tignish-Palmer Road joined the Liberals because he was a strong supporter of ousted former Conservative leader Olive Crane and he was at odds with the Federal Conservatives over their controversial and unpopular EI changes which had a very negative impact on his riding.
He made the correct decision because the Tories are in leaderless disarray and have assured a third term for the Liberals in 2015. The Provincial NDP is gaining ground but will not form the next government due to a lack of funding, an inexperienced Leader and his lack of a seat in the Legislature. It appears 2015 is ripe for another Liberal win if Premier Ghiz wants to run for a third term and if he doesn’t trip up badly during the next two years.
