Editor: At present, there are eight youths in the Charlottetown/Cornwall area looking for a Beaver colony so they can enjoy the benefits of the scouting programs. The problem is parents are needed to step up to the plate so this particular scouting program can be offered as well as programs at the Cub and Scout level age groups.
There are also youths at the Cub and Scout levels looking for leaders. This past year, four groups have ceased to function so there is danger that 100 years of scouting on P.E.I. will cease to exist.
Scouting cannot be offered on P.E.I. without volunteers. In our sister provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick scouting is still alive, however due to apathy among the adults of P.E.I., scouting programs along with our splendid camps may be lost. Scouting groups need a sponsor, location, leaders and youth to operate, the sponsors, locations and youths are there, adult leaders are needed. Scouts Canada is now co-ed.
If any parent or person is interested in being a leader to deliver a scouting programs at one of the Beaver, cub, Scout or Venturer levels, please contact the Scout office at 566-9153 or drop in to the Scout office at 100 Upper Prince St., Charlottetown during business hours.
