Editor: Silly items in the news receive attention and letters. So what if Trudeau puffed a toke? Which hypocrite on the Island would say he or she never sipped a bit of the moonshine, which is illegal, and why would I care if they did? But if the talk is about why we are getting cancer, there is silence. We support fundraisers and run around the Island hoping no one is spraying that day.
I implore Islanders to seriously address the issue of our high cancer rates. We can make the first step by banning cosmetic pesticides in Stratford. Roger Gordon has written knowledgeably about this threat (The Guardian, Aug. 29 and Sept. 13) but there was little response. Let us educate ourselves and believe that the changes will come. Whoever thought smoking would be banned in all public places?
Come on, let’s get serious.
