Editor: With school in, many teachers are still talking to their students about helmet safety and one topic that has come up in many of our conversations is, “Is it OK for kids to wear their bike helmets while skating?”
And the answer to that question is “No.” Bicycle helmets are for bicycling.
The proper helmet for ice-skating is either a hockey helmet or a multisport helmet.
We have found that some schools buy helmets to use for those kids who don’t have a helmet. As with our bicycle helmet campaign in the summer where we provide helmets to kids, we would like to just turn that summer program around to winter and help those who need a helmet for skating.
