What many forget in our free and democratic system of government is that it brings with it the concept of responsibility, both individual and collective. This concept means you and I as individuals and our community at large must be ever aware of how it functions and administers the apparatus of a governing body. One tenant of democracy is the requirement of a set of laws, rules and regulations.
In July 2011 a meeting was held to discuss and present the history in word and pictures of Ambrose Street and immediate area. Coun. Rob Lantz and heritage activist Catherine Hennessey expressed their appreciation for the manner in which residents had maintained the integrity of the streetscape and architectural heritage of the area.
Recently The Guardian published several letters which expressed great concern for a new construction on Ambrose Street which they deem does not enhance the grand achievements of P.E.I.’s greats: Harris, Blanchard, Smith and Chappell whose works are plainly visible throughout the city.
These letters beg the question of Coun. Lantz and Ms. Hennessey: have you changed your views on the need to preserve the architectural integrity and heritage of Ambrose Street and surrounding area?
