HALIFAX — Police and the Nova Scotia Justice Department are investigating the death of a 23-year-old man who was found dead Monday in his jail cell in Halifax.
Chad Lucas, a spokesman for the Justice Department, says the man was found unresponsive at about 8 a.m. at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility and emergency health services were brought in, but could not revive him.
Lucas says he was declared dead about an hour later.
Lucas says he did not know if the man was alone in the cell or if foul play is suspected.
Const. Pierre Bourdages of the Halifax Regional Police says officers were investigating and the medical examiner’s office was trying to determine the cause of death.
