UPDATED: 54 communities in Prince Edward Island are experiencing power outages

A large branch came crashing down across Villa Avenue in Charlottetown Tuesday afternoon as gusts whipped up close to 90 km/hr. 

Some Islanders are in the dark this afternoon as approximately 980 customers have lost their power from the poor weather.

 As of 7:30 p.m., power outages are reported in the following areas.
