A code of conduct investigation is being conducted on Const. Jeffrey Rae Gillis,
A RCMP officer on P.E.I. facing assault charges has been suspended with pay.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Scott Stevenson told The Guardian Thursday a code of conduct investigation under the RCMP Act is being conducted on Const. Jeffrey Rae Gillis, 43, of Charlottetown.
Penalties under the RCMP Act range from written warning to dismissal from the force.
Gillis is set to appear in provincial court May 9 to enter a plea on two counts of assault and one count of uttering a threat stemming from incidents on two separate occasions earlier this month.
The Crown is pursuing a summary conviction, which result from offences that encompass the most minor offences in the Criminal Code, such as causing a disturbance and making harassing telephone calls.
Gillis has been a member of the RCMP for almost 20 years and has been stationed on P.E.I. since 2006.
