RCMP to provide dispatch service
KENSINGTON - RCMP has been contracted to supply dispatch services for Kensington’s municipal police department.
As of March 1, RCMP will provide the service at a cost of $24,000 per year.
Summerside Police Services had previously provided the service for Kensington’s police department at the same annual cost.
“With the new PICS2 radio system that was implemented on the Island, the communication between Kensington Police Service and the RCMP became a bit of an issue,” said the town’s chief administrative officer, Geoff Baker. “We were certainly looking to rely on our communications with the RCMP, so switching over the dispatch communications to the RCMP made some sense for our police department.”
The agreement between the town and the RCMP is for one year.
Dispatch is an operational cost within the police department’s annual budget.
