MONTAGUE - A project to update the bylaws in eastern P.E.I.’s largest town should help avoid the pitfalls that led to the controversy last year over the location of a Boys and Girls Club.
Council approved a tender from Stantec Consulting in the amount of $14,751 to update the town’s official plan and bylaw status.
There were six tenders received by the town to deal with the matter.
“We liked their presentation and they seem to understand what the issues are,” said Coun. Jim Bagnall, requesting approval of the Stantec tender.
Council hopes out-of-date bylaws and proper planning designations will be remedied in the official plan update that is expected to be completed before the spring building season arrives.
It was flawed planning zones and bylaws that led to the battle last summer when a youth club purchased a home in an otherwise residential zone of the town.
