Man fined for undersized oysters

A P.E.I. fisherman was fined $1,500 for possessing a good haul of undersized oysters.

With fishery officers and the RCMP set to testify in Provincial Court Wednesday in Charlottetown, Jeremy Russell Wagner changed his plea to guilty.

Wagner has 12 months to pay the fine.

He was charged in August 2015 with unlawfully retaining and possessing oysters after his truck and tubs of oysters were seized.

He was found to be in possession of 295 undersized oysters.

Wagner has no previous record.

$1500. fine is not enough. He is taking the future livelyhood of legitimate fishers by taking undersized, illegal oysters. He is selfish and only thinking of himself. What needs to happen here is for the Dept. to come down hard on this guy or he will keep on doing it. It wouldn't hurt to have the oyster fisherman themselves have a strong talk with this guy.
