The  provincial government has added three new medications to the provincial drug program.

Health Minister Robert Henderson says the province has also expanded coverage of several other drugs as part of its commitment to achieve parity with Atlantic drug formularies within the next two years.

The new drugs added in December and January are for treatment of high cholesterol and urinary tract infections as well as an intrauterine device that delivers a birth control drug continuously for up to three years.

Henderson says the province is able to make additions to the drug program by participating in a provincial and territorial alliance that lowers costs by providing bulk purchasing power.
