Prince Edward Island provincial court

Glen Allan MacQuarrie, 45, of North Winsloe gets three months in jail for driving while prohibited

A North Winsloe man whose record included driving without a licence was sentenced recently to three months in jail.

Glen Allan MacQuarrie, 45, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to driving while prohibited.

The court heard that on Oct. 23, 2015, an RCMP officer in Meadow Bank saw MacQuarrie's vehicle speeding.

When the officer checked, they found MacQuarrie was banned from driving.

MacQuarrie's record included failing the breathalyzer and a charge of driving while his licence was suspended under the Highway Traffic Act.

His licence was suspended because of outstanding fines.

As of his court appearance, MacQuarrie owed the province $1,968.

Before handing down a sentence, Orr mentioned a recent case in P.E.I. Supreme Court that saw a man get 10 months in jail for driving while prohibited.

"Certainly the supreme court is taking the matter seriously," she said.

Along with the jail time, Orr ordered MacQuarrie to pay a $100 victim surcharge.

We have a knob like that down East , does not understand what a stop sign means , drives at highway speed in the town , lost his license for 2 years he had so many violations , almost killed himself driving while high on drugs but yet is still going strong and has not changed his habits one iota . He has been warned by many people to slow down but just tries a different route to avoid them for a while and then its pedal to the metal again . Untouchable .
