Opposition Health Critic James Aylward says government has failed to meet the deadline for eliminating parking fees at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown.

Aylward notes all MLAs, including Premier Wade MacLauchlan, agreed to a deadline of Feb. 1 for government to respond to the Opposition’s motion for government to consider extending the grace period.

The Conservative MLAs suggested doubling the current 30 minutes of no-fee parking to a full hour, while continuing to push for the full elimination of the fees.

“Parking fees at the QEH impact a lot of Islanders every day who use the hospital for services and to visit loved ones,’’ Aylward said in a statement.

“Our PC caucus put forward this motion which generated great debate and was passed unanimously by the legislative assembly.’’

“Perhaps in his haste to head to India the premier left a number of files unresolved on his desk,” Aylward added as an apparent parting shot.

The hospital was moved out of town where like free parking shopping centers you need a car to access them easily. If people didn't have to wait it would be not be as sick. Not everyone understands for example the policy is actually to have only one doctor per eight hour shift on ER

I don't have any problems with the parking fees. The fees generate a lot of money. When this source is gone you better believe your going to pay for it elsewhere. Anytime I've had to visit family who were hospitalized for an extended stay, the hospital was great about providing parking passes.

There are serious issues with health care in this Province, and our opposition chooses parking fees? How about tackling the fact we are the only province without abortion access. What is up next? The variety of coffee at QEH's cafe? The brand of toilet paper being used in Provincial hospitals?. This opposition is treating our legislature like a high school student council.
