Andrew James Myers of Head of Hillsborough, John Martin MacLeod of Kinross get time behind bars

GEORGETOWN – Driving while they weren't supposed to has landed two P.E.I. men in jail.

Andrew James Myers, 35, of Head of Hillsborough, was sentenced in Georgetown provincial court last week to 60 days in jail after pleading guilty to driving while prohibited.

On Dec. 13, 2015, a Kings District RCMP officer saw Myers speeding on Route 2 near Morell.

After pulling the vehicle over, the officer learned the vehicle wasn't registered, insured or inspected.

Myers was also under a driving prohibition at the time.

Along with the jail time, chief judge Nancy Orr ordered Myers to pay a $100 victim surcharge and banned him from driving for 18 months.

The RCMP officer also issued several summary offence tickets to Myers.

John Martin MacLeod, 49, of Kinross, was sentenced to 40 days in jail after pleading guilty to driving while prohibited.

On Nov. 20 Kings District RCMP received a report that MacLeod was driving in the Kinross area but was prohibited from driving. An immediate patrol was made and  MacLeod was stopped by an RCMP member in Kinross, who confirmed that he was indeed prohibited.

Along with the jail time, Orr ordered MacLeod to pay a $100 victim surcharge and banned him from driving for one year.

Barbara Rose MacDonald, 66, of Souris, was sentenced to five days in jail after pleading guilty to refusing to provide a breath sample.

On Nov. 19, 2015, Kings District RCMP stopped MacDonald after receiving a report she was driving while impaired.

The RCMP said she showed signs of impairment and was given a demand to supply breath samples.

She didn't give sufficient samples.

Along with the jail time, Orr ordered MacDonald to pay a $1,200 and a $360 victim surcharge.

MacDonald is also banned from driving for one year.

Why do judges waste their time handing down a sentence of banning their driving a vehicle when they know these people are going to do it anyway. Please tell me these two sentences of 60 days and 40 days are not weekend sentences because if so, these people will be back out there during the week in uninsured and unregistered vehicles and it appears that the only ones that can't see this is the courts.
