CFCY Saturday Night Hoedown

Islanders have been tuning in to the CFCY Saturday Night Hoedown for more than half a century, but recent changes have left some fans fuming.

Those changes included getting rid of former host Georga Dawn, pre-recording the show and eliminating call-in requests.

The Guardian has collected some of the comments listeners made on social media.

The hoedown is finally good since they got rid of Georgia dawn, she couldn't get through a sentence without screwing up.

This makes me so sad. Its been a family tradition to get together for the hoe down after a long week. Is there anything we can do about it?

I, also miss the weekly Hoedown live show and Georgia Dawn. The new format is not very palatable and could be revised. Here are some suggestions for improvement: 1) Have a live performance every second week. 2) Every other week schedule a deadline time and date for requests so they could be included in the taped version. 3) Play songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s mostly. Some older songs could also be played from time to time. More current songs could be included on PEI country stations. 4) Include a brief history of why and when the song was made. Something of interest about the singer could also be included. 'Food' for thought and consideration.

I, too, miss the live show format and Georgia Dawn. Perhaps with some thought and creativity, the Hoedown can be revived by: 1) having a live broadcast every 2nd week with requests. 2) featuring music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s mainly. Newer music than this is played regularly on country stations. 3) asking for input on making the Hoedown even better than before. 4) perhaps requests could be made weekly by a certain date and time via email. Those entries could be incorporated into the taped show along with the requested songs. 5) for variety, a brief summary of how and why the song was created or some info on the singer could be shared with the audience. Just food for thought!

one way to bring it back to the old style is who sponcers the hoedown? call them and tell them you will be boycotting them till the hoedown is back to the old way. and ill tell you when they lose money the owner of the station loses money..

really loved Georgia Dawn and pre-recorded what's up with that please go back the live show it was the best part. Even though the man doing it now is great just not the same although the music is still great love the oldies (not the chicken reel so much though lol) I feel the pre-recording could be the end of this show!
