P.E.I. Potato Board holds disinfection workshops

The Prince Edward Island Potato Board is hitting the road with a series of five workshops over the next week and a half.

The workshops deal with cleaning and disinfection in relation to the handling and transporting of potatoes.

Scheduled presenters are David MacSwain and Dr. Solke DeBoer who are well-known to the industry for their pre-retirement work with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and Ken Lingley, an agricultural engineer who runs On-Target Sprayer Services.

Workshop attendance is mandatory for any grower who intends to submit an application to the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture for funding to cover a portion of the costs associated with setting up on-farm disinfection.

Information on the new approach to cleaning and disinfection will be provided.

Biosecurity, Bacterial Ring Rot and types of equipment for proper cleaning and disinfection will be covered.

Although pre-registration is not mandatory, it is encouraged to ensure sufficient seating and availability of workshop material.
