East Prince RCMP respond about 6 p.m. as vehicle strikes woman during time of poor visibility, slippery roads

CRAPAUD – A 45-year-old woman from the Crapaud area is dead following a pedestrian accident Monday.

She was walking on the TransCanada highway in the heart of the town where the highway forms the major intersection with Route 13.

East Prince RCMP got the call just before 6 p.m.

"A vehicle, travelling southeast on Route 1 struck a pedestrian and the 45-year-old woman from the Crapaud area died as a result of her injuries," said a statement issued by the the police force Monday.

In keeping with a new policy of the RCMP, it will not be releasing the name of the woman, but it did say that family have all been notified.

"The lone male occupant of the vehicle was not injured," said the statement.

"Weather conditions and visibility were not favourable at the time of the collision," it said.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

    I was driving through that area around 5:30 pm and it was tough to see; cars/trucks were driving well below the speed limit. Once I reached Victoria it started to clear up. Sad to hear someone was killed.
