And Maritime Electric said let there be light.

Ten streetlights that had been darkened in the Town of Kensington, one for more than a year, were back on, lighting the streets of the town Wednesday.

“They did come in this morning and retrieve a complete list from us. We have one light that is not done. There was one light that was repaired on the 1st of December that had been out since August 2014,” said town manager Geoff Baker. “I have to say the responsiveness from Maritime Electric has been really good.”

Coun. Mack MacLean raised the issue at the last town council meeting, noting that many of the lights in question had been out for months.

Mayor Rowan Caseley told council at that time if the lights were not soon fixed by the electrical utility the town could stop paying for electricity running to them.

The mayor also said he would write a strongly worded letter to the company to ensure that the lights are repaired in a timely fashion.

Wednesday, Baker couldn’t say if the mayor’s comments sped up the process any.

“I am not even sure they were aware there was an issue,” he added. “From what I understand with their IT system if a pole number didn’t get logged with the service request then it was kind of booted out of their system.”

Baker said “that technical glitch” has been addressed and the repairs made.

I would hate to see what bad service is like. Oh yeah, I know. I'm a "customer" too.

mazing what public humiliation will do to get a company to do what it gets paid to do. The REALLY scary part is that this company is in charge of the electrical system for the whole province it should make us all wonder just how much maintenance and repairs they are NOT doing to other parts of the power grid. It is obvious now why the Government changed the laws to take some of the control of the system away from Maritime Electric. It is obvious Maritime Electric can not be trusted with operating the electric system in PEI.
