Rumours  swirling that owners of  Charlottetown Mall bringing in two well-known retail stores

Rumours are swirling that the owners of the Charlottetown Mall are bringing in two well-known retail stores.

Sources have told The Guardian that multi-national retail clothing company H&M and American retailer Bath & Body Works are two of the tenants in discussions to help fill space left by Target Canada.

RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust, which owns the mall, told The Guardian earlier this month that it was in negotiations with three undisclosed national tenants, saying talks were at an advanced stage.

Companies that own retail space don't usually comment on who their tenants are, even when it becomes official. They usually wait for the retailers to make the announcements themselves.

The Guardian reached out to both H&M and Bath & Body Works. One responded, sort of.

In a tweet to this reporter, Bath & Body Works wrote, "Only time will tell, Dave!'', teasing the tweet with a winky emoji.

One person this newspaper spoke to said mall management has been tight-lipped about talks with specific retailers but those are the two names being mentioned most often.

There has also been some talk around Marshalls, another well-known clothing retailer.

And Giant Tiger seems to be keen to come to Charlottetown but is said to have very specific criteria for the type of location most suitable.

Sara Chesiuk, who handles marketing and advertising for Giant Tiger, said there is no news on the horizon for Charlottetown.

"But we do have a lot of requests for a store in your area and we advise the real estate team every time,'' Chesiuk said.
