Mary Moore-Phillips has been elected to the Lennox Island First Nation Band Council.

Moore-Phillips earned her post in a byelection held Dec. 12, following the resignation of Chris Sapier, who recently moved to Lennox Island.

The Mi’kmaq Confederacy of P.E.I. issued congratulations to Moore-Phillips Monday.

“I would to like congratulate Mary on her election to council, “said Don MacKenzie, executive director of the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of P.E.I., (MCPEI). “We welcome her return to the board of the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of P.E.I. In fact, Coun. Moore-Phillips was a founding director of MCPEI, so she will be a wealth of knowledge and provide a unique perspective to our board.”

MacKenzie also acknowledged the service of Sapier to Lennox Island and the Mi’kmaq Confederacy board.
