Egmont MP and fisheries minister says riding in no hurry to hold nomination meeting

Gail Shea

Federal fisheries minister and Egmont MP Gail Shea appears to be on the fence about whether she will run in the upcoming federal election.

Some federal Conservative ridings have already held nomination meetings and elected their chosen representative, but Shea said Wednesday her riding is in no hurry.

“The election is still a year out, there’s been no nomination set or anything at this point in time,” Shea said.

When asked if she plans to reoffer for her Egmont seat, Shea was non-committal.

“I have yet to talk to my family about that,” she said.

“It’s not something that I’m going to talk about today because I’ve been busy, of course, doing the work of government. I’m out every day talking to people, I’m campaigning every day.”

In the meantime, speculation has been brewing locally she may run for the leadership of the provincial Progressive Conservative party, despite the fact she has repeatedly denied having leadership ambitions.

Shea said Wednesday she is "not considering it.”

The provincial PC party will announce the details of its upcoming leadership convention during its annual general meeting on Nov. 1.

The federal election is scheduled to take place in the fall of 2015.

Oh I'm sure Gail has skimmed a lot of money off PEI and Canadian taxpayers with her well-padded annual salaries over the last 20 years. $50k a year goes a long way in West Prince but $150-200k is like winning the lottery. Year after year after year. And then she'll get 2 double dipping pensions on top of that. She is so divorced from the economic reality of her constituents that it's sickening.... And then to see her supporting the Harper EI agenda and attacking the poor and the fishery, not to mention how she has supported the privileged hand over fist through the PNP. Yes, in fact provincial PC's and federal Conservatives have supported the ILLEGAL and IMMORAL immigration head tax in PEI just as much as federal and provincial Liberals. Not one single cretinous PIG from these parties will ever see another vote from our family as long as we live. Ms. Shea and Mr. Harper are as equally disgusting in their sense of entitlement as Mr. Ghiz and Mr. Trudeau.

Gail Shea has joined forces with the Prime Minister of Alberta, Stephen Harper. Rather than supporting the PEI economy the Shea-Harper duo have joined forces persuading Islanders to leave for work in Harper's Oil Sands. Shea has 2 choices, Quit or get voted out.

like many Harperites, she's waiting to see what is going to happen with the Duffy trial, and keeping a nervous finger on the eject button. oh, and Angus, how many Liberal Senator's and how many CPC Senator's are facing criminal charges or investigation? their the facts, not wild speculation and attempts at spinning.

She's non-committal as she knows well that it's game over for her, Harper and the Tory dictators.

This has to a die in the wool liberal; who will support the liberals, despite the terrible past record of liberal governments, both Federally and the present Ghiz government, which tops them all!

Considering that there are plenty of unelected Senators over the years, most of them appointed by the Liberals, since they've been in power more often, I hardly think one can pick and choose between folks at the trough. BTW as I have said before Gail will win up west, simply because Dr. Dickenson and the NDP will peel away a lot of the soft Left support from the Liberals.

If Gail runs again on party lines and BS, she might win again, but I think if she runs on performance, she couldn't win a one woman race to a two woman outhouse.

Oh you don't have to be an MP 'home from away' - Senator Downe never got elected to anything, but a Liberal Prime Minister though he should be in the upper chamber with all the perks and pension, because of the loyal work he did for the Grits. BTW Gail will have no trouble winning the seat with Doc Herb already peeling away much of the Liberal' s left of center support.

Well, considering the crappy job she did as an MP and Minister, why would anyone even want her to be the leader of the PC's?

Thank goodness , Gail is smarter than that , she has seen what happens to any woman that tries to lead this bunch of back stabbers . Only a totally foolish woman would ever try this again with this provincial party until the back room boys are wiped out . Then we may have a chance at governing but not until .

Sounds like an Olive supporter, get over it. Olive couldn't win an election. Polls never in her favor. Gail brought more monies to this Province and will be a cinch to win re-election.

Yes , you are right , I am a Olive supporter with out a vote in her riding but that doesn't mean I didn't think her way was the only way we will ever regain this province back & stop stealing my grandchildren's future from them . All I want is a honest government that isn't filling all their friends pockets . Something that neither red or blue with present setup can provide; but I guess I'm in the minority in putting the next generations future ahead of my own GREED .

She will not many Conservatives, if she is smart, she will see the writing on the wall that the Conservatives will be defeated in next years Federal Election. Maybe she will be appointed as a Senator-----is there not a Senate vacancy on PEI? She could build a cottage on Friendly Lane in Cavendish. But then she will have her gold plated pension...the trails and tribulations of being an MP

Garth , the only person reality seems to escape is you, as you cannot seem to fathom the shortcummings and screwing your hero Harper and his band of reformers ( or is it conservatives?) have given the people of Canada and PEI. Keep up the trumpeting Garth, You might just make a senator yet, but I doubt it. Too many other further up Harper then you.
