Residential construction in Stratford saw a big increase in July.

Coun. Gary Clow, chairman of the planning committee, reports 24 new single-family dwellings were started before the end of the month.

That represents a 90 per cent increase in starts from July 2013. Those permits grew from $993,000 last year to $1.87 million this year.

The news for the year isn’t quite as good.

Housing starts year-to-date are down about nine per cent, with a total permit value of $8.6 million.
