An Ontario woman living in P.E.I. is facing multiple assault charges after a man was stabbed several times in Murray River on Friday evening.

Members of the Kings District RCMP were called to a residence in Murray River at 6:40 p.m. Friday, July 11 where a 33-year-old man reported that he had been stabbed multiple times.

He was transported by ambulance to the Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague where he was treated for non-life threatening wounds.

The suspect, a 51-year-old woman originally from Ontario who had recently been living in Prince Edward Island, left the scene in a vehicle and was arrested the following day at Moncton Airport.

She was in possession of a plane ticket and was boarding a flight to Ontario when she was arrested, said Sgt. Kevin Baillie of Kings District RCMP.

“It was members of the Codiac RCMP who arrested her and we arranged to have her transported back to P.E.I. to appear before a justice of the peace,” Baillie said.

She is now in custody at the provincial jail and is scheduled to appear in Charlottetown Court on Tuesday, July 15 at 9:30 am.

She will face charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The victim and accused were known to each other prior to the incident.

Police have seized a vehicle for further examination and additional statements will be taken.

It is not believed there were any witnesses of the incident, Baillie said.

Alcohol is believed to have been involved.

This is one of two separate stabbing incidents that took place in P.E.I. Friday night.

A 45-year-old Charlottetown man is dead and a 17-year-old female has been charged with first-degree murder after a stabbing on Brows Lane in Charlottetown.

Baillie said while stabbing incidents in P.E.I. are highly unusual, the two incidents on Friday evening are not connected.
