Thousands of people crammed into the Charlottetown Event Grounds and along city streets to participate in the Colour Run or as some people call it “happiest 5k on the planet.”

The Colour Run website says that the Color Run was founded in “January of 2012 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in the Happiest 5k on the Planet.

“We are the original paint race and have created a completely new genre of running events that continues to grow exponentially. Now the single largest event series in the United States, The Color Run has exploded since our debut event. We have more than tripled our growth, hosting more than 170 events in 30 plus countries in 2013.”

The run’s organization is a for profit event management group, but some of the money raised goes to local charities in the communities where the runs are held.

The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which thousands of participants, or Color Runners, are covered head to toe in different colors of cornstarch at each kilometer.

The fun continues after Color Runners complete the race with an unforgettable finish festival. This larger than life party is equipped with music, dancing and massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations.

Lets close the bridge and shut down the ferry! No one is allowed to have fun on this island without cranky old islanders complaining about it disrupting their misery.

this was a brilliant initiative. There were people of all ages, and it attracted a ton of people to participate, regardless of their fitness levels. It was a great family event, and we will go again next year. For those complaining about the paint and water bottles... the paint is completely water soluble and they had cleanup crews out as we were finishing the run. So... get yourself a pair of sneakers and join us next year - Totally awesome fun!

As a participant in this I thought it was great...if a few people wanna complain let them..chances are they are shoving a slice of pizza in as they are complaining...also...for the old folk who are in such a rush that they can't wait until a traffic guide directs them through...if you ever end up hitting me i'll knock ya out!

It's nice to see people getting out and doing something healthy for a change rather than sitting inside complaining about trivial things. I'd like to see more of this..

I was at the end of the run. Yes there was water soluble paint on the street and water bottles near the water station, but there were also cleaning crews for the bottles and street cleaning trucks were waiting to wash the streets as the runners finished up. Some people just need to find something to complain about. The "mess" was cleaned up. This was a very well organized event
