Finance Minister Wes Sheridan

P.E.I. was the only province in Atlantic Canada to see its population grow in 2013, and employment here was at an all-time-high average of 74,100.

These facts are among those compiled in the 2013 Annual Statistical Review, released this morning. This was the 40th annual review, which provides current and historic socio-economic information about Prince Edward Island.

More than 100 data tables tell the story of the province’s economic performance in 2013 and the 2011 Census results.  The information can also be useful to businesses and non-governmental organizations in their planning.

The information is compiled from sources including provincial government departments, the private sector and Statistics Canada.

In his foreword, Finance Minister Wes Sheridan outlines concerns about some of the data from Statistics Canada. He noted the federal government's move to change to aboloish the mandatory long-form census and instead collect household information through a voluntary survey casts doubt on some of the numbers.

“Our Island communities are now realizing that data gathered through the voluntary National Household Survey is not as accurate and complete as it was under the mandatory long-form census," Sheridan writes.

This information is misleading people are leaving here to settle elsewhere they are (were) taxed to death the government will say that to Conservatives in Ottawa to suck out some false money our population is dwindling very fast, our island is not so gentle anymore, anyways Nova Scotia New Brunswick and PEI should be amalignated to one province and have just one decent government, this population increase is just B.S.

"Our Island Communities are now realizing that bla, bla, bla." What does he mean by that? What Communities? How did they come to realize this? And so what if they realized this? This is either stupid reporting or a dump an irrelevant comment by the Minister or both.

If they population is increasing, why is this government secretly planning to close schools? Their argument on that file is that population is decreasing.

Perhaps it is as accurate as Sheridan's own numbers. Why complain? If population increases PEI gets more booty from the Conservative Govt. That would be a good thing, No?
