A 39-year-old Charlottetown man has been charged with luring a child under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose with a telecommunications device.
A spokesman for Charlottetown Police Services said today that that investigation began June 20 after the young female in question received a friend request on Facebook from someone she thought she knew.
The accused male will be appearing in provincial court on Sept. 3.
The minimum jail sentence for persons convicted of Internet luring is three months in jail. Depending on how the Crown chooses to proceed, whether summarily or indictably, the maximum can be up to 10 years.
