This year’s Confederation Centre Young Company Troupe, selected from across Canada, debut We Are Canadian July 1 in the outdoor amphitheatre at Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown.
Centre's two youth troupes, Confederation Centre Young Company, kick off new seasons
Confederation Centre’s two youth troupes, the Confederation Centre Young Company and the Confederation Players, will launch their respective 2014 seasons on Canada Day at the centre.
The Confederation Players perform The Magnificent Scheme at 1 p.m. daily on the south side of Province House until August 29.
The Magnificent Scheme is directed by Jody Racicot. This important year marks 25 years of historical interpretation for the heritage troupe, which has been with the centre since 2012. The Players also offer four daily walking tours of Old Charlottetown.
This year’s troupe features 18 performers, including Islanders Olivia Barnes, Robert Crossley, Brynn Cutcliffe, Patrick Jeffrey, Vincent Hughes, John MacCormac, Cameron MacDonald, Catherine MacDonald, Sarah MacPhee, Mikey Santiago, and Sean Young, as well as members from Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia: Ryan Burda, Jamie Cordes, Thom Davis, Jacob Durdan, Jackie Janas, Brandon Roy, and Luc Trottier.
The Confederation Centre Young Company presents the performance We Are Canadian in the outdoor amphitheatre, Monday through Saturday at 12 noon, from July 1 until August 23. We Are Canadian is a free public show sponsored by TD Bank group.
Kerry Gage, director, invites the public to attend this year’s new musical. “We Are Canadian is a high octane showcase of song and dance. It features the music, dance styles, languages, and cultures that have contributed to our diverse and beautiful Canada. Come join fourteen of Canada's incredible young performers and celebrate being Canadian!”
The show profiles many nations that form the fabric of Canada’s cultural mosaic. New cultures represented this year include Acadian, Caribbean, and Western European.
The 2014 cast comes from as far west as Port Moody, B.C. all the way to Truro, N.S. as well as P.E.I.’s Melissa MacKenzie and Alex Kelly. The company also includes Greg Borris, Eric Dahlinger, Robyn Harrison, Aisha Jarvis, Hailey Lewis, Jeff Mendonca, Gray Monczka, Jamie Murray, Grant O’Neill, Reece Rowat, Ainsley Roy, and Vanessa Sears.
