Greg Rivard announced his intention Tuesday to seek the Ward 7 (Beach Grove) seat on city council in Charlottetown.
The seat is currently held by incumbent Cecil Villard.
Rivard has lived in Ward 7 for the past eight years with his wife, Peggy, and their two children, Ava and Myah.
He has been employed with the Workers Compensation Board as an assessment auditor for the past 20 years.
Before meeting Peggy and starting a family, Rivard said he was a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of P.E.I. program. He also coached hockey in the Sherwood association at various levels and age groups.
Rivard currently serves as head coach of the Western Red Wings in the Island Junior Hockey League as well as being involved with the Charlottetown Ringette Association as a coach for the under-8 and under-10 programs.
Rivard said exciting things are happening in Charlottetown and now is the time to run for council.
“It is a time of tremendous opportunities and challenges,’’ Rivard said in a statement. “We have a unique chance to set our city on a course that will define the next decade and beyond. The citizens of Charlottetown deserve to be informed and consulted on the changes that directly impact their lives.’’
Rivard said he pledges to make sure his vote on council accurately conveys the collective opinions and priorities of constituents in Ward 7.
“My goal for Charlottetown moving forward is to make sure there is a holistic approach to all planning, spending and decision-making.’’
