RAIN AND UMBRELLA

A fireworks display originally scheduled for tonight in Victoria Park has been cancelled due to expected bad weather.

The display, which is part of Charlottetown’s 1864 Anniversary Celebrations, has been tentatively rescheduled to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Organizers said a further announcement regarding the fireworks will be made around noon on Sunday.

The loud and colourful display wasn’t the only 1864 anniversary event that ran into problems with Saturday’s rain.

Because of the steady rain, events have been cancelled, postponed or moved indoors as the organizers’ “rain plan” goes into high gear.

The following is a list of Saturday events that have been cancelled or relocated because of the weather. An announcement will be made on Sunday concerning that day’s activities.

 - The Cultural Market at Victoria Row on Saturday, June 14 from 10:30 until 3 p.m. is cancelled.

- The Outer Limits Sport Bike and Skate Competition on Saturday, June 14 at 11 a.m. is cancelled, but has been rescheduled to June 21 at 11 a.m. at the same location in Victoria Park.

 - Quebec/PEI Entertainment at the Confederation Centre of the Arts on Saturday, June 14 from 12-6 p.m. is going ahead as planned, but has been moved inside of the Confederation Centre’s Memorial Hall.

 - The Quebec Garden/ Quebec Brick Installation Unveiling at Confederation Landing on Saturday, June 14 at 2 p.m. is going ahead as planned, but has been moved inside of the Lobster on the Wharf Restaurant.

 - The SS Victoria Bell event at Confederation Landing on Saturday, June 14 at 2:30 p.m. has been moved inside of the Lobster on the Wharf Restaurant.

Everything else not listed above that is part of Charlottetown’s 1864 anniversary celebrations will continue as planned rain or shine. Readers can check The Guardian online Sunday around noon to see a further update on the fireworks display.

Ironically the fireworks could have gone on as scheduled on Sat. night. The weather at 10 PM couldn't have been better. I can't wait for Boomer's explanation on CBC's Mainstreet on Mon. afternoon (if he shows up).

Why is the city doing anything in Victoria Park? I thought that the $8 million parking lot known as the Charlottetown Event Grounds was supposed to be where all this stuff was held? It was supposed to replace Victoria Park and Confederation Landing Park for concerts and large gatherings.

Hooray! While you're at it, could you also cancel the overamplified hillbilly music that residents near the park have been trying to block out for the past four days? Even with all my doors and windows closed, it's driving me crazy. Wouldn't it be nice if the City actually followed its own noise and nuisance bylaws.

too much crab going on anyways, - you had to split yourself in half if you wanted to attend everything scheduled, - just plain overdone, great slush fest for City Hall, - money flowing everywhere, except to get our streets driveable , they are a disgrace.

Just stay home and let everyone else enjoy these events. I am sure 99.999999% of people think the wide variety of events is GREAT!!!!!!! Thank you city hall

@Guardian Stop being such a bunch of narcissistic whiners. We need precipitation in every single season, every single week of the year. You know the stories you run about the Winter River going dry? Well precipitation plays a big part of that equation. Please try another tactic to sell your local fish wrapper.

Yes, it's definitely a story about The Guardian whining about the rain. At first glance I thought it may have been about some weather-dependent events having to be cancelled. Thank you rain is needed for opening our eyes to this social injustice
