Traffic was backed up on the Hillsborough Bridge Wednesday while road work on Water Street prevented traffic exiting the bridge from turning left.

Paving work being carried out at the foot of the Hillsborough Bridge in Charlottetown earlier this morning tied up morning commuters.

Some drivers travelling to work from Stratford reported sitting on the Stratford Road for 20 minutes or more.

Compounding the slow-moving commute in Stratford was a fender-bender involving a school bus on the Trans-Canada Highway at the Kinlock Road traffic lights. The collision was minor and there were no injuries.

Charlottetown Coun. Terry Bernard, public works chairman, tweeted that paving and patching work in the capital city is due to wrap up Friday.

Meanwhile, the provincial Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal has issued a list of work beginning this week.

Beginning this afternoon, there will be a detour around the Upton Road and Route 1 intersection by the West Royalty Industrial Park, where the province is building its latest roundabout. Signage and flaggers will direct motorists during construction hours.

And the Rocky Point Bridge will be closed beginning Monday, June 16. Crews are replacing the bridge on the Rocky Point Road. A detour will be set up sending motorists on Route 19 through Cumberland and Nine Mile Creek. That work is scheduled to end July 25.

Hard to win on the island! Don't do the work and people complain! Do the work and people complain!

do we really need a roundabout there? What about the intersection in Sherwood at Brackley and St Peters Rd? Really need something done about it first. If the city boys travelled that way, they would have had it fixed long ago instead of pounding them in where they don't need them. Two (2) on the riverside drive is just stupid and a real waste of money!!!

We have two seasons on PEI, Winter and Road Construction. No one has been able to answer my question yet. If the population of PEI is approximately 140, 000 Where do we get the 150,000 flag people in the summer???

here is an idea, start the work at 9am once the heavy traffic has gone across the bridge, I can't believe how backwards we are around here when it comes to planning.

There is no reason work can not be done at night. Find crews that will work at night and get it done .

The people will be on here complaining that they are too noisy and their high-powered lights are too bright and that is affecting their sleep. Let's use some common sense

Another roundabout ? On the major thoroughfare into Charlottetown ?? Just as tourist season begins ??? More tax money being wasted???? Who schedules these jobs ? All this kind of work should be carried out in the spring and fall, not when tourist season is just starting or during tourist season. Lights at that intersection were just fine- why waste tax money on another roundabout !! Or is someone somehow benefitting from all these needless roundabout 'projects' that the public (taxpayer) is not aware of !!!

Not sure where you were when you saw lights at the Upton Road By Pass intersection. Are you thinking of the ones at Maypoint?

I like how people who post comments use false names! Its a good thing since people like enoughisenough hasn't got a clue what he or she is commenting on. (1) this is spring! the ground just got dry enough to work with (2) this was planned over a year ago (3)there is NO light at that intersection (4) its not every day we can see our tax dollars in action Its usually spent/given out behind closed doors. So enoughisenough next time a story is released read it first before you comment!

Jeeesh... Our little piddly road jobs here are nothing compared to what tourists are used to. There are no lights at this intersection genius. Those roundabouts keep traffic moving...just wait until they build 3 more of them on the TCH.

I LOVE ROUNDABOUTS...keep them comming. no waiting at stupid lights. We also need a roundabout at the bypass and Kensington rd intersection before someone is killed there AGAIN!!!!!
