Barenaked Ladies

Less than half an hour before free concert passes for Charlottetown's Canada Day concert were meant to be available to the public, the ticket site went down.

But workers at P.E.I. 2014 scrambled and have a Plan B.

To reserve the free tickets, people are asked to visit a new site:

The Canada Day concert will feature performances by the Barenaked Ladies, Classified, Tegan and Sara, George Canyon, David Myles, Roch Voisine and DRUM. Voisine host the event with Prince Edward Island Olympian Heather Moyse.

The show will the take place at the Charlottetown event grounds and will serve as the kick off for the Celebration Zone at Confederation Landing Park.

Geographic location: Charlottetown, Confederation Landing Park

A lot of armchair Einsteins here. Why are you blaming the gov't? Hackers redirected the site and probably ddos'd the URL so all the "fixes" would come with a loss of service. I know you are probably a 7th generation conservative or liberal but give the politics a rest. Hackers hacked this site. If the US govt site goes down once in a while, what do you expect the PEI govt to do when theirs goes down? You expect OUR govt to be more effective than the states? SHAKE YOUR HEAD.

This ticket site was hacked and then they put in the plan B almost like the hwy to please the hackers again. Why cannot there just be first come first serve. Who ever is organizing this event is appeasing everyone off island. The common folk that work are left out in the cold again, even though we are the ones that are paying for this concert. R.H.

Called the number on the 2014 web site and was directed to the Gaurdian for a new web site. Had no trouble and got 4 tickets. But I am home all day so no problem for me. Why did they not do this on the weekend to give everyone a fair chance at getting tickets. Not very well thought out plan.

This was one of the most thorough fails I've ever seen. 2014 is proving to be a bit of a joke. Tons of money blown to hire connected people who obviously can't do the job. More money on silly expensive signs all over the province and this 70 days of stuff (they won't let me print the word I'd like to use) that is being pulled off by an off Island company. With so many things needing our tax dollars, this is a colossal waste. What happened today should be punctuated by a resignation or two.

Free tickets for this concert was a great idea. It's too bad the website crash and cause so much trouble. It's also too bad that people who had to work, did not have an opportunity to even attempt to get tickets. I think it would have been more fair for everyone if they had staggered the allotment of tickets over a couple of days including the weekend. This would've given more people a chance to try for tickets.

It says it is sold out... or is it the site issue??

  • I know it's not their fault but why wasn't whole site just shut down?
    May 30, 2014 - 16:56

Riiiight. Three hours of trying only to have submit button non-working. Tried refreshing, deleting history, opening new browser. Tried to contact and was led to a porn site. Epic fail.

Where is Plan C? Plan B didn't work either. Doesn't anyone test this stuff before it is released to the public? Obviously not.

It is absolutely terrible that the reason why this provincial government website for Victoria day concert tickets went down was because hackers redirected anyone accessing to a porn site!! PEI government needs to be more diligent with it's IT security so this can never happen. The vulnerability of our personal information is at stake & needs more protective measures be taken.
