The Alzheimer Society of P.E.I. is warning people in the Stratford area not to give money to someone who's going door-to-door asking for donations on the society's behalf.
Fund development coordinator Margie Villard said Thursday they received a call earlier in the day from a homeowner who'd been asked for donations.
Villard said the society does not have any representatives collecting money at this time.
"Just tell them that you've given at the office," Villard said. "Then call us and let us know someone was at your house."
If someone was legitimately collecting money for the Alzheimer Society they would be easy to identify, she indicated.
"People representing the society always have information with them to prove they are collecting for the organization. All of our representatives have official receipt books from the society and they will have pamphlets."
People seeking donations for the society should also have sufficient knowledge about the society to be able to answer any questions people might ask, Villard said.
The society does not conduct its door-to-door campaign until October.
