Kings County Provincial Court, Georgetown.

GEORGETOWN – A Sturgeon man will be sent to federal prison for two years after pleading guilty to charges of child pornography.

Twenty-five-year-old Daniel Lannigan was sentenced by provincial court Judge Nancy Orr following numerous adjournments over the past two months to establish an agreed statement of facts in the case.

Judge Orr imposed a publication ban on any details surrounding the matter which might identify prior victims.

Along with two years in prison, Lannigan was handed three years of probation, ordered to provide DNA, forfeit computer equipment and placed on the sex offender registry for life.

Lannigan was charged last October when RCMP conducted a search of his home. He pleaded guilty to possession and distributing child pornography in February.

The charges were laid following an investigation by the P.E.I. RCMP Major Crime Child Exploitation Unit after a cyber tip was sent to the National Centre for Missing and Exploited children.
