Marijuana clone plants that are used to grow medical marijuana are displayed under a light in this Canadian Press file photo.

A take-down of a car on a street in Souris Thursday netted 340 grams of marijuana.

"Members of the Kings District Street Level Drug Unit conducted a  stop on a small black car in Souris, PEI.," said a statement from the force issued Friday. "Officers suspected occupants of the car were transporting drugs to the Souris area for resale.

"Two men from Souris were arrested and a search of the car resulted in the seizure of approximately 3/4 of a pound (340 grams) of marihuana," said the statement. "The drugs were packaged for resale.

"A 30-year-old man from Church Avenue and 23-year-old man from Main Street,  Souris are facing a number of charges related to the trafficking of drugs and will appear in court at a later date," said the RCMP.

"Drug activity often involves violence that puts innocent citizens of Prince Edward Island at risk," said S/Sgt Dave Thibeau, Kings District Commander.

"The Kings District Street Level Drug Unit investigates complaints and targets people involved in the purchase and sale of drugs within the area," he said.

"Citizens are encouraged to report any drug activity to police at 838-9300. Anonymous tips can be sent to P.E.I. Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), Facebook, or www.peicrimestoppers.ca"

This persecution is what steers people to things other than harmless weed. RCMP will get more friends and co operation by respecting the majority of Canadians that have an opposing view.

Not much of a haul ,I know pot heads down this way that would go through that in less than 2 weeks by them self, too tight to share it! There must be a pile of it out there somewhere to keep their pipes full! I do not use it but would like to see it sold at the liquor store and TAXED .Maybe they could ease off on property taxes and such if they got a big windfall from that.

This is ridiculous. Marijuana isn't a gate way drug, I know many people who smoke it. They are far from violent. Knowing the two who got busted, I can say that there's more to the story as well. The government is getting ready to legalize it and its insane how they're trying to take out their competition. They'll tax it like cigarettes and alcohol. Make it available at legal age, and arrest/charge anyone who tries to grow their own. You can bribe doctors with money and get your own liscence for medicinal marijuana. Why is nobody doing something about that?? If the island's economy keeps going the way it is, the unemployment rates, lack of job... The poverty and homeless in Charlottetown is worse than ever before. Why do you think people peddle drugs to make a few cents. It's a shame to see what's happened to our beautiful island. And marijuana ISN'T as dangerous as ignorant people want to believe. It's used for chronic pain, cancer, etc. There are already people on the island with their liscence for prescription medicinal marijuana. It isn't a pill. Or a dangerous concoction like estacy, cocain and acid. It's an herb, naturally found all over the world. Native Americans used it, smoked it in pipes. People make a huge deal out of things they don't know. Drugs are drugs, I agree. But when the government legalizes it, what will all you high and mighty know it alls do then? It's like prohibition. Now alcoholics are worse than ever. Teenagers drunk... Fights... People landing in hospital from drunk driving. Pick your battles people. Don't just read one article on the internet that is biased and will say nothing good about the use of marijuana. It has MANY useful purposes. It's used to treat and help cure cancer! Hemp is amazing. Don't knock it because you're an ignorant oblivious gullible person. :)

EASY there bud .I am saying it should be legalized! I would rather young people experimenting smoked Govt . bud, not crap laced with meth or who knows what .I would also like Govt to max out on taxes from this enterprise...the more you get buzzed the less I pay in taxes...that is if Govt just does not just blow all this revenue like coke up an addicts nose!!!

@Truth. You sound like a litle kid having a temper tantrum. Grow up. You talk about recreational drug use like its some kind of noble pursuit . Try running a marathon or doing something productive with your time. Even better get an education. Smoking cigerettes, smoking weed, putting your mouth on the end of a tail pipe...common sence, research, and hard data points to serious health risks. Truth isn't found in a "bowl".

Smoking anything is going to cause some harmful physiological effect, even inhaling smoke from just plain empty rolling papers with no tobacco or pot is bad for your lungs. If people want to use the excuse pot is medicine like people used to say about alcohol during prohibition at least make some effort to use pot with common sense in by swallowing it not inhaling tar, smoke particles, carbon monoxide and other junk due to incomplete combustion. And no vaporizers are useless too they use the solvent propylene glycol to dissolve the nicotine it's an irritant at best.

@Chris I don't think you should be telling anyone to do some research if you think "weed" harms your body like cigarettes. As long as it's legal to buy alcohol and cigarettes no one has the right to tell me I can't use Cannabis as my recreational drug of choice. Let alone as a safe medicine. @Islander "it's definitely affecting brain cells", that's pretty scientific evidence you've stated. Do tell us how much you know about the Endocannabinoid system and how the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant affect your brain.

@undecided44 .....your comment makes absolutely no sense! Go smoke some more marijuana. Might not satisically kill people but it's definitely affecting brain cells.

Dude, if you don't think weed adversely impairs your brain function and harms your body like cigarette smoking, you may want to do some research. We have become a society of pill poppers, alcoholics and pot heads. I guess, pick you poison if your reality is always impaired.

this is nothing more then a bunch of personal options, facts are facts another two men have been taken down for the same things a lot more are doing.... now we are going to have those who think there better then the rest go on like they know facts unreal lol facts are as they are there has never been any deaths to do with "MARIJUANA" statistics are there to know this is true. As to calling it a gateway well that's option based more statistics are saying that there are no long term side effects, or physical addiction that comes with the use of marijuana facts are facts and if one's are going to open themselves by voicing there own options they should know the facts

Such a hypocrisy, RCMP are sent to charge people for doing the exact same thing that the government is getting in to. I guess they don't like competition

Based on What Evidence?......"Marijuana" is almost always a segway to other elicit drugs. It's just a starting point. Proven fact. True, that alcohol related violence & assaults are a direct result of alcohol consumption. But you take the "Marijuana" away from the user, and observe the Psychotic tendencies surface. I'm a witness to this on a daily basis.

lets be grateful for the weed because its the pills and other crap that is destroying this island and the people doing the HARD drugs will rob you blind. Pot is very close to being legal.

I am not aware of any violence with marijuana in this community. Wife beaters are all drunks and the pot heads are never wife beaters.

I hope your not serious in this statement or are you lacking in the brain department! There are weed wife beaters, drunk wife beaters and sober wife beaters ! Weed is just another drug that will destroy some families like alcohol has for many years
